Sino-Swiss Scientific Workshop: Life cycle assessment of electrical and electronic equipment.

The Sino-Swiss Scientific Workshop and the 32. Discussion Forum on Life Cycle Assessment were held on June 6 till Friday June 8 2007.

The event provided an excellent platform for Chinese and Swiss researchers being active in the field of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and recycling of waste of electrical and electronic equipments (WEEE).

The 20+ presentations and two workshops provided the input to a very lively exchange between Chinese and European Scientist. From the beginning on, the participants were motivated to exchange their knowledge and to ask detailed questions on particular issues of LCA and e-waste recycling.

During the study tour on the third day, the participants visited the e-waste recycling company IMMARK in Regensdorf as well as Glass Recycling SWISS GLAS in Müllheim. Both visits gave an comprehensive insight in one of the fist processing steps of e-waste. The Sustainable Technology & Society Lab, EMPA, thanks Immark for their hospitality.

Due to the good weather many of the participants were able to enjoy the city of Zurich and it’s near surrounding.

All the flight emissions (one-way) of the participants of the Sino Swiss Scientific Workshop are offset in the 'myclimate carbon offset projects' by the Swiss organisation for climate protection myclimate. (alltogether 27.82 tons of CO2).
